Easy Ways to Eat Low Carb

Reducing your carbohydrate intake can have many health benefits like reducing your appetite, reducing blood sugar and insulin levels, lowing blood pressure, and losing weight. 

Here are some easy ways to live a low carb lifestyle: 

  • Cut back on bread. Thankfully there are a lot of easy ways to substitute it. ( lettuce-wrapped sandwiches & burgers, burrito bowls, cauliflower rice, and more) 
  • Eliminate sugary drinks like soda, sweetened tea & frothy coffee drinks. They are both high in carbs and sugar. 
  • Buy and make snacks that are low carb. Some of my favorites include a handful of macadamia nuts, almonds, cheese, walnuts, and peanuts.
  • When out to eat, ask for non-starchy veggies ( like broccoli, asparagus, or spinach)  in place of potatoes, pasta, fries, and bread. Those starches have a lot of carbs. And not only are veggies better for you they are super tasty! 
  • Cook with healthy fats like coconut oil and extra virgin olive oil. 
  • Eat healthy high protein foods like meat, fish, poultry, nuts, eggs, cheese, whey protein powder, cottage cheese, and greek yogurt.)
  • Ditch the fruit juice. ( drink water or sparkling water with fresh lemon instead) 
  • Enjoy low carb breakfasts. Eggs are my favorite because they are less than one carb, they are high in protein, and they taste great.
  • Use sugar substitutes. Some of my favorites are stevia, erythritol, and xylitol. When I bake I am a huge fan of Swerve products and monk fruit.
  • Replace regular milk with coconut or almond milk.
  • Use coconut or almond flour in place of white flour. 

Bottom line: Don't stress about it too much. Stress is never good for anyone. Read labels, decide to be purposeful with your choices each day, pay attention to how good you feel when you eat low carb vs high carb, and be excited to try new foods and new recipes along your journey!
