6 TIPS TO HELP YOU NOT STRESS OVER FOOD DURING THE HOLIDAYS

Okay sooooo the holidays are here! Yay! I LOVE this time of year SO much! You too? And I don't know about you, but when thinking about the holidays, the word “diet” doesn’t really come to mind. And the keto diet? Definitely not. I mean if I look around my kitchen this time of year there are alot of carbs y'all! 

You might know this already but with a  high-fat, low-carb eating plan, the ketogenic diet allows only 10 percent of your daily calories to come from carbs, which is roughly 20-30 grams of carbohydrates. And eating more than this could knock you out of ketosis, or fat burning mode.

To put this into perspective this time of year, just a half a cup of mashed potatoes has about 11 grams of carbs, meaning you’ll have to skip many of your holiday favorites...and that is just no fun! SOOOO rather than obsessing about any diets this year, join me in deciding to being more mindful about our sugars and carbs and to enjoying the season. 

To help you - here is a list of 6 ways to do your best and not stress over keto, low carb, etc. And as we know, stress just makes our bodies and brains freak out even more and we don't need any extra stress.

1- Beware of those sneaky hidden carbs

For example, turkey is great, but once it's doused in gravy it isn't awesome! 

2- Bring a dish to celebrations

Going to a party or family get together- bring a dish that’s safe to eat. As a bonus, it doubles as a gift to your host or hostess, too.

Some good examples are a beautiful green salad with a homemade vinaigrette dressing, mashed cauliflower, side of non-starchy vegetables like Brussels sprouts or broccoli, no sugar added cranberry sauce or a keto-appropriate dessert.

 

3-Choose and enjoy your favorite carbs

If you are going to eat carbs, choose the ones you love most! Don’t just eat a roll because it’s there ( i say that because it totally happens to me too ;). If you love apple pie or sweet potatoes, eat a serving and enjoy every bite.

And if you want to drink remember those cocktails count! Ditch the bear and stick to hard alcohol, which is carb-free, and avoid sugary holiday drinks and mixers. And if you do wine, make it red!  

A little more on cocktails, do your best to avoid anything sweet like juice, or cola-based mixers. Most clear liquors like vodka, whiskey, gin, scotch, rum, and tequila contain zero carbs on their own. Mix these with soda water or plain water and garnish with a lemon, lime, or sprig of rosemary for a keto holiday cocktail. Cheers! 

4- Ignore naysayers or negative feedback

Let's be real here- your family and friends might think you’re a downer for being keto, or they may not understand your desire to diet/ watch your food during the holidays and that is okay. They just might be confused about the new dietary pattern you're following or current studies of the benefits of ketones and ketosis. You can always  say something like, ‘I know you guys totally care about me but I'm working on feeling my best this time of year and what i am doing is totally helping!" Maybe even show your excitement and let them know all the healthy foods you CAN eat and drink, like green veggies, fresh meat, seafood, poultry and pure therapeutic ketones

Stay strong, be excited for yourself and the choices you are making for better and ignore the negative talk—it’s your body and lifestyle!

 

5- Focus more on non-food activities

Yes I know, food is super important this time of year! But it’s not why we all gather together. Maybe start new healthy holiday traditions, like running a race, playing a sports game, cooking healthier, low carb/ keto-friendly meals with family and friends. Take a nice long walk after you all eat.  And most important- be more  grateful for the people in your life—not food—this year.

6- Drink your ketones 

I am telling you- when I drink ketones- my brain is happier, my mood is lighter, my thinking is clearer, my energy is better, my appetite is smaller, my cravings disappear and well i just feel like a much calmer, together human! This time of year ALL of that is needed right- well come to think of it- EVERYDAY i want to feel that way which is why i drink them and a good old biohack is AMAZING !
